Dr. Fitzpatrick grew up in Andover, Massachusetts with a love for animals. In 1980, she attended Colorado State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology. She went on to earn her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1989. During her first year out of school, Dr. Fitzpatrick joined a small animal practice in Rochester, NY and volunteered at the Seneca Park Zoo where she continued her interest in zoo animal medicine.
Although fascinated with zoo animal medicine, it lacked that something that made daily practice special and unique; the bond shared between pets and their families. Dedicated to preserving the human-animal bond and committed to making a difference, Dr. Fitzpatrick moved to the Syracuse area in 1990. She worked at a small animal exclusive practice until 1998 when she purchased the Beaver Lake Animal Hospital, an established practice since 1961.
She has a special interest in feline medicine and is an advocate for good dental health and geriatric wellness programs for both canine and feline patients.
Dr. Fitzpatrick is a believer in traditional medicine but understands and respects the remedies that nature has to offer. She works to continuously further her education and is currently working towards certification in Chinese Veterinary Herbal medicine, to fulfill the desires of clients who are interested in alternative therapies.
She is a member of the AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association), NYS Veterinary Medicine Society, AAHA (American Animal Hospital Association), AAFP (American Association of Feline Practitioners), and the AFA (American Ferret Association).
